Eddy Yang is an artist out of Los Angeles. He recently released his latest single On Our Way [Into The Night]. It is off his impending album American Glory – which will be released later this summer. Yang produced the entire album, played all the instruments, and sang all the vocals. As an Asian American, he uses his unique insights and experiences, world views, and heritage to shape his art and give it meaning.
When listening to his latest single, it sounds like he is highly influenced by Nirvana, New Order, Joy Division, Echo & The Bunnymen, Bahuaus, The Fall, and Killing Joke. He falls into the retro 80s rock genre, that prioritized melodies, vocals, and beats to create the unique sounds of the bands mentioned above. There’s also a grunge 90s feel. Other bands that come to mind include Ben Folds, Guster, and The Shins.
These bands share a rawness and DIY sound that permeates their music and enhances their overall sound. DIY should not be mistaken for unrefined or unprofessional, rather it gives the artist complete artistic control – something that is often paramount to creating the sound an artist hears in their mind and hearts.
Yang utilizes both live and programmed sounds to create his musical aesthetic. His vocals could perhaps be a little better in tune but overall, Eddy has a lot of potential. I look forward to hearing more from the artist. Listen to more of Eddy’s music on Bandcamp and Soundcloud. Learn more details about this LA artist on his Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages.
